My dog was attacked. He's not drinking and bumping. Is it serious?

You should get your dog to a vet immediately for a thorough examination as there may have been some serious damage done that is not obvious. Hopefully not and it is just the development of some muscle pain etc but at the very least the vet will be able to give some pain relief, alongside peace of mind.

He could absolutely have injuries that you cannot see, either to his muscle or spine/neck. If he is moving slower, he may have neck pain that hurts him when he moves. I recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian at their next available appointment, so he/she can perform a physical exam and localize any pain. Your vet can prescribe pain/anti-inflammatory medications that help your pet be more comfortable. If you cannot get him to the vet, I recommend keeping him rested (ie restricted to a crate) so he cannot hurt himself further. I hope this is helpful!

Head trauma is always a cause for concern. Since this happened yesterday, there should have been some improvement with your pup if he suffered an injury such as a mild concussion. Sleeping a lot is not so much of a concern since young puppies normally sleep most of the day, but if you also see signs such as unresponsiveness, a head tilt, circling while walking, unequal pupil size, twitching of the eyes, ataxia (wobbly gait) or [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) then he should be [seen by a veterinarian immediately](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-handle-a-pet-emergency/). If there is a bump, it may be a seroma (blood filled sac). This can treated by your veterinarian by either draining the area or trying a veterinary anti-inflammatory medication. Keep in mind that most dog attacks to small dogs cause a lot of trauma and most of the time there is much more trauma inside than what you can see from the outside. They would be able to examine her more closely and proceed with therapy accordingly. At the very least they can proceed with pain control medications as she is likely painful which is why she is not eating well. I am hoping for a full recovery!

It’s possible he has pain in his neck. This can be from a compressed or calcified disc or an infection in the vertebra. I recommend to have him examined again by the veterinarian with deep palpation of the neck. He may need a radiograph as well. If a lesion is discovered, he will start medication and likely pain management. I hope this helps.

If the bite occurred on or around the puppy’s head then based on the symptoms you are describing I would be concerned about head trauma. If there is any sort of trauma to the head the brain can swell causing abnormal neurological behavior like you are describing. If you know the bite occurred in the head then I recommend taking the puppy to be checked out by a veterinarian. It also goes without saying that for now you need to keep the older dog away from the puppy at all times until they become more used to each other. Hello, and I'm so sorry to hear about Bud. His condition sounds very serious and he needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Seizures that go untreated can result in permanent brain damage, while not eating or drinking are a sign he is in pain, and will result in weakness and dehydration. It sounds like he sustained some head trauma, possibly a concussion. Is there an emergency clinic that you can go to? They are typically open 24-7. Because Bud's condition is serious, the vet may recommend hospitalization along with diagnostic tests such as x-rays and blood work. At minimum he needs medication for pain and antibiotics to help heal his injuries. The vet may also recommend referral to a neurologist.
