My dog ate a lot of uncooked rice. Is it dangerous? What to do?

He should be fine but could develop an upset stomach from the new diet and from those items swelling in his stomach. Watch him for vomiting and diarrhea. If you notice anything I would have your vet take a look at him. I hope this helps!

Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Your dog will probably be ok, as dogs often eat stinky food they buried a long time before eating it. Watch your dog for vomiting and diarrhea and when this happens, take Russ off food for 12 hrs., then feed him some bland food such as boiled white rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat in several small feeds over the day. The next day start replacing small portions of the rice mix with his regular food. Do this for about two days until all the rice and chicken is replaced with his regular food. If he still vomits or has diarrhea, you need to take him to your vet for treatment.

If it was only seasoned with garlic powder it likely won't cause any problems, however the other seasoning ingredients could cause some minor digestive upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. Uncooked rice itself may also cause bloating if a lot was eaten. You can feed a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken if your dog only ate a little and has minor GI upset, however if you see persistent vomiting or diarrhea, blood in the vomit or diarrhea, a bloated or painful abdomen, or your pup seems in severe distress, seeking veterinary care ASAP is best.

There is not a hard and fast rule for how long a pet should be without food. Some vets say as long as 24 hours. I generally recommend 6 to 12 hours.
