My dog ate Umcka Cold & Flu. What should I do, even if she's fine?

This particular medication has two medications that should be fairly well tolerated by dogs but can cause mild sedation as it contains an antihistamine and dextromethorphan. Phenylephrine, however, could be toxic due to cardiac side effects. Also, there may be sweeteners such as xylitol which is highly toxic to dogs. My recommendation would be to call the ASPCA poison control at (888) 426-4435 and make a visit to the vet as soon as you can with Happy this evening as he could be experiencing side effects of the medication or have a different problem entirely. Coughing in the first place is worrisome as older dogs are highly prone to heart problems which can lead to both the cough and the lethargy. I hope this helps, and I hope Happy gets better soon!

Not so good. I would recommend that you call ASPCA's poison control number. That number is 888-426-4435. There is a $65 charge, but they will be able to best advise you. Or take him immediately to a vet. Be sure to have the medication package with you so the amount he infested can be determined

If you’re certain it was just one soft gel there isn’t concern for toxicity. Maple ingested well below the toxic dose for all of these drugs. If it’s possible she may have eaten even 1-2 more I would recommend contacting the Pet Poison Helpline: www.petpoisonhelpline.com

They have Veterinarians on staff that can answer all your questions for free. They can tell you if she even needs to be seen! My hope is that there is no long term effects. The best thing to do is to call the ASCA Poison Control Hotline at 888-426-4435. There is a fee for the call, but I think for Piper's health and your peace of mind its worth it to find out the best next steps. To the best of my knowledge it is not toxic; HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that Piper can't or won't experience clinical signs. If Piper is experiencing any vomiting, diarrhea, and/or unusual behavior she should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. I hope this helps some!

Some cough drops can be very toxic to dogs. My best and safest advice is to call Pet Poison Helpline 855-886-7965. You can give them the exact type of cough drop ingested, your dog's weight, and his symptoms. They will let you know if you need to seek any medical care for him right away. There is a small fee for Pet Poison, but it is worth it in my opinion for peace of mind and safety for Odin. Best of luck.
