My dog ate Tylenol or paracetamol. Is it dangerous? Do I need a vet?

In dogs high doses (100mg/kg body weight) are needed to induce toxicity - which results in liver and kidney failure and other side effects. The dosage your Border Collie ingested should be relatively safe (50mg/kg), but I would strongly recommend a check up anyway to give gastroprotectants medications and reduce gastrointestinal absorption.

Did he just bite it open, or did he also ingest the content? If he also ingested the content, you should take Koda to your vet right away where they can make her regurgitate her stomach contents and with it hopefully the ingested Paracetamol. And you need to go to a vet now.

The "diphenhydramine" (or the "P.M. portion of tylenol PM) has a pretty wide spectrum of safety, but the tylenol (acetaminophen) does worry me, depending on the dose Louie may have gotten. We can start to see side effects of tylenol in dogs from 40 mg/kg which would be about 270 mg for Louie's listed body weight. So, depending on the strength of Tyleon PM that you have (many of them contain 500mg of acetaminophen), if he may have eaten even a single tablet, that's enough to warrant a vet visit. Given the possible risk, I recommend bringing Louie right in to the vet. They will likely induce vomiting to get it out of his stomach, or start protective GI medications to minimize his absorption of it, depending on when the exposure occurred. Hi, as you probably suspect acetaminophen is toxic in dogs. It can be used in certain cases under your vet's guidance, at a dose of 10mg/kg. Is this formulation of 120 mg/ml or 120mg/5 ml ? How many drops did you give ? Most vets have an antidote fro acetaminophen toxicity and should be able to help Dumbo. First step would be to understand the dosage he has ingested. Hope this helps,

Oh dear! I'm afraid that B needs to be seen by an emergency vet immediately. The toxic dose of Tylenol in dogs is considered to be 50-100 mg/kg. If B ate 12 500 mg tablets, this is a total of 6000 mg - with his body weight, this works out to 600 mg/kg, which is far above the amount that can cause serious toxicity issues or even death. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency clinic right away for treatment.

Hi there! According to my drug handbook, although we don't often use acetaminophen in dogs, the dose would be 170mg on the high end for Bella's size. If she truly ate 1/4 of the 500mg tablet it would be about 125mg, and she should be fine. However, if she ate more than 170mg, overdose is a concern. If Bella were my patient, I would recommend evaluating some lab work to check her red blood cells and liver enzymes just to be sure there aren't any issues developing. The concern here is the Tylenol, which is toxic to dogs. Yes, it is pointless to induce vomiting now, it's too late. Tylenol does cause irreversible liver damage, so I think it's best to get DiNozzo checked out by a vet immediately to be safe. Please take him into a vet now. Best of luck.
