My dog ate tennis ball pieces. Is her vomiting a bowel obstruction?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 14 days old

My dog ate pieces of a tennis ball on Friday, she has throw up quite a few pieces since then and quite a bit this morning, (Tuesday). She seems to poop just fine, she had diarrhea once but other that that normal... should I worry about a bowel obstruction? Or is she okay since she’s throwing the pieces up?

Since this has been going on, I would recommend that she is seen by your vet as soon as possible. Vomiting could mean that she does have an obstruction causing her nausea and pain. An obstruction can be intermittent, and leaving her untreated could turn into an emergency if the foreign material abrades or perforates her GI tract somewhere.
