My dog ate a towel and is vomiting. Should I take her to the vet?

It could be that the paper towel caused Goldie's stomach to be upset, and that lead her to eat the grass. Then it is likely that the grass caused her to vomit. She should be able to pass a small amount of paper towel on her own, and it's unlikely that eating this has caused an obstruction already. I will give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps before having to take her into the vet. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Oh no, poor Chloe! If she vomited up a sock and glove, I would be concerned there are other things in her stomach causing her to vomit. The best thing to do is take her into a vet immediately for an exam and x-rays. If she does have other foreign objects in her stomach or intestines, they may need to be removed surgically. The vet can also give her a shot to stop the vomiting. Please take her into a vet now, good luck!

A paper towel by itself probably wouldn't cause an obstruction but if there was grease on it or he ate something else he could have gastritis, pancreatitis or an obstruction. If he is acting more normal today, feed a bland diet such as chicken and rice for a couple of days (Plain, no fat, skin, bones or seasoning). But if he continues to vomit or not eat, has diarrhea or constipation he should be seen by his vet. I hope he feels better soon.

I'm glad to hear that she vomited the towel up! My concern is that there is other towel material or other foreign material that she ingested in the trash can. I'm glad that she seems to be eating normally now, but if she vomits or refuses her food at any point, take her to the vet. They will be able to perform an exam and abdominal x-rays to try to rule out the presence of more foreign material causing an obstruction in her stomach and/or intestines.

It is possible that she has an intestinal obstruction or blockage from eating parts of her blanket. This is usually diagnosed with x-rays of the abdomen, and an intestinal obstruction is a surgical emergency. If he absolutely cannot get her to a veterinarian until 7am, I recommend not feeding her any food in the meantime. She can have access to water, however she may vomit this up. He could have gastritis from the sock irritating the stomach, But I worry that he may have something else in his stomach or intestinal tract that is causing the vomiting. If he vomits tomorrow morning then I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. They will likely recommend an X-ray to look for an object/ obstruction. Hello. I would try feeding him a laxative & one way to do this is to take 1-2 pieces of bread & slather with Vaseline. You can repeat this in 6-8 hours & hopefully this will push the rest of the towel material through. If your dog vomits, do not feed any more & you may need to see your vet. But several small bites of cloth in a 45 pound dog should not cause a significant blockage. Give this a try & see if he becomes more regular.
