My dog has diarrhea and straining after eating a soccer ball. Vet?

Since he is going every 3-4 hours it might be a good idea to take him to the vet to prescribe medications to help resolve the diarrhea, especially since he is going in the house at night. If you wanted to try some treatment at home, you could withhold food for 12 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. If the diarrhea has improved then continue the bland diet for a few days and slowly transition back to his normal food. You could also add a dog probiotic to his diet. Proviable Forte Kit has a probiotic capsule and paste for diarrhea. If the diarrhea continues then he should definitely been seen by your vet.

I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. I recommend giving Chico a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice. If he becomes lethargic, there is blood or he isn't eating then I recommend taking Chico to a veterinarian. There are many reasons why dogs develop diarrhea. Some of these reasons are that they are something they shouldn't like trash, fatty foods, or possibly ate something that isn't food at all, such as a piece of a toy, stick, or stone. A dog may also develop diarrhea from parasites, ingesting a toxin, or some sort of infectious disease, among many other possibilities. My general cutoff if a dog is eating and drinking well and acting normally is 36 hours without the diarrhea resolving likely warrants a trip to the veterinarian. Your vet will examine Natty Boh and may recommend abdominal radiographs and possibly some bloodwork. The vet may prescribe an antidiarrhea medication and because diarrhea can lead to dehydration, they may offer to give her some fluids either under her skin (subcutaneously or in an IV). I'm sorry to hear that Panda isn't feeling well. It is difficult to determine if his diarrhea is related to Rimadyl, ingestion of the rubber toy or stick, parasites, a virus, or other issue. Given all of these possibilities and the fact that his abdomen is tight and he has been straining for a bowel movement, I do recommend taking Panda to to his vet for evaluation. The vet will be able to perform an exam to palpate his abdomen and may recommend abdominal x-rays. Try to withhold food for the next 12-24 hours. If his vet appointment is more than 24 hours away, you can also begin to feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually transitioning him back to his normal diet over another 5-7 days. He may have ate something that caused some gastrointestinal upset since he seems to be doing better. Continue feeding the beef and rice for a few days and then transition back to his regular food. If the vomiting and diarrhea persists then he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat.
