My dog ate Rolaids. How to relieve her diarrhea and stomach pain?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 25 lbs

Sissy ate approximately 4 Rolaids yesterday afternoon. Ever since she has had diarrhea. It is not a lot that ever comes out and it's very watery. But she has had it consistently throughout the night and all day today. Also last night she vomited a yellow very thick and slimy liquid, but she only vomited one time. She has no problem drinking fluids but I can tell her stomach is hurting. How can I relieve the pain and diarrhea.

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about Sissy's little dietary indiscretion. Luckily, rolaids are not dangerous to dogs, though they have been known to cause GI upset if more than a couple are eaten. I'm glad to hear that she is drinking water, as my main concern with continued diarrhea is dehydration. If Sissy is lethargic or vomits any more, she should see a vet. If she's acting normal other than seeming like she has an upset stomach, I suggest withholding food for a while (4-6 hours), then try feeding her small meals of boiled chicken and rice. This will help dry up any remaining loose stool, which sounds like it's on the way out, anyway. There isn't much else that you can safely give her at home other than bland food. You might try giving her a piece of bread or a few unsalted crackers, as that yellow liquid you mentioned sounds like bile (usually comes up when the stomach is empty). Any continued symptoms should be evaluated by a vet, but Sissy will in all likelihood recover just fine. Good luck, and I hope Sissy feels better soon!

Hello, the calcium content in that chew should be well tolerated by Thunder. The magnesium content may cause GI signs such as constipation, loose stools, or even diarrhea. If you are near a veterinarian, you may have them induce vomiting and measure his calcium and magnesium levels with bloodwork. Alternatively, you can monitor at home for any evidence of increased drinking, increased urinations, loose stools, or diarrhea and contact your veterinarian immediately if you note any. In looking up this plant, I can't find any information that they are toxic to dogs, but it is possible that eating it upset her stomach. Given that Roxy isn't acting any differently and is eating, I wouldn't be too worried about her just yet. I would be more worried if she having persistent diarrhea, is vomiting frequently, and isn't eating or drinking. You can try offering her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Should she return to normal (i.e. no vomiting or diarrhea), then she will be just fine. I would have her seen by a vet, however, if she starts vomiting more or having persistent diarrhea, or she stops eating and drinking. I hope this helps!

My dog drank milk and has diarrhea but seems fine. What should I do?

I am very sorry to hear that Sadie was given some milk by your 3 year old. I also have a 3 year old and a dog, it's a very interesting combination to be sure. The milk will most likely not cause anything more then some diarrhoea. Since you have only noticed a few episodes I would continue to monitor Sadie at home. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and white rice and plenty of fresh water. Cooked skinless sweet potato can also be helpful for diarrhoea. If the episodes continue, if Sadie becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Sadie to see his vet. Because milk can have a high fat content, one potential complication of Sadie ingesting it, would be pancreatitis. If you notice the above signs it's possible Sadie has pancreatitis. My dog has diarrhea, upset stomach, won't eat. What's happening?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Rosebud! She is very cute! Causes of diarrhea can be from: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), new treats/dog food/table food, toxin ingestion, food allergy/intolerance. If Rosebud is fully vaccinated and has been thoroughly dewormed and has had stool samples checked then I would with hold food for 12-24 hours. Do not take away water unless vomiting. After the fast offer a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If she continues to not eat or starts to vomit, she needs to see your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Rosebud a speedy recovery!

Dog sick after treat: diarrhea, vomiting. Can I treat at home?

Poor girl. This certainly sounds like an upset stomach situation. You can try a few things today to see if she improves. 1) Bland diet- boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice 2) Probiotic- over the counter Culturelle from your local pharmacy can help restore the normal GI flora 3) Fiber- add 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in her food daily As long as she remains active, does not start excessively vomiting and still has a good appetite, you can try these things for the next 24 hrs or so and see if she gradually improves her condition. I hope that your fur baby Mia is able to recover well from this upset stomach episode. : ) Best of luck moving forward and take care!

My dog has diarrhea and is lethargic but still eating. What can I do?

Hello! Thank you for posting your question! If you haven't tried pepto bismol, you can give that a try and give Rosie 2tsp every 8hrs. I would also begin a bland diet such as boiled chicken breast and rice until the diarrhea resolves. You can also try and add a probiotic such as Fortiflora. I would not give the pepto bismol for more than 24 hours. If the diarrhea is worsening and not resolving, i would bring a stool sample to your vet to have it tested. There are other medications that your vet will habe to help resolve the diarrhea. If Rosie ate something she normally doesn't eat, this could have caused a dietary indiscretion. My dog has an upset stomach, licking lips, and eating grass. Help!

It could be Rey is feeling a bit nauseous. Try feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If this doesn't help her symptoms, she starts vomiting, refuses to eat the diet, vomits water or stops drinking water, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, take her into a vet immediately.
