My dog ate a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Do I need to induce vomiting?

Oh no, it's not good that MJ ate an entire bag of Reese's cups! While one doesn't contain a lot of chocolate, an entire bag of them may be enough to cause chocolate toxicity, one sign of which is vomiting. Because of this and his currently symptoms, I would take him into a vet immediately for treatment. He needs decontamination procedures in case he is suffering from chocolate toxicity. There is also the potential that enough foils could cause a GI blockage, and that needs to be ruled in or out as well. Either take him into your normal vet or find an ER vet clinic or vet on call if your normal vet is closed. Best of luck!

There is not enough chocolate in a fun size Butterfinger to cause any toxicity issues, so I wouldn't worry :) Milo may have a mild upset stomach if he isn't used to eating "people food" like this, but otherwise he should be just fine. I would not recommend trying to induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide in this case, as there are some risks to doing this (severe gastric irritation, possible aspiration pneumonia, etc.) and there should be no need to make him vomit.

What a scary experience! I totally understand being concerned. The chocolate in reeses cups is mostly sugar and milk, so even eating 6 and even being so small, Elliott should be ok. It's still a good idea to keep an eye out for vomiting, diarrhea, agitation, and shaking/tremors. If you see any of those signs, I'd recommend going to a vet for supportive care.

That was naughty of Rudy to eat the cupcake! The good news is that with his weight and the amount of cocoa powder he ate, there will be minimal to no reaction from it. There is no need to induce vomiting. There is a potential for an upset stomach, diarrhea, and agitation, and if you see any GI signs, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Otherwise, Rudy should be fine :-)

It can, however, cause gastrointestinal upset or even a more serious condition known as pancreatitis. If she develops vomiting or diarrhea, then she should see her veterinarian. If she is allergic to any of the ingredients, inflamed skin could result. That being said, her skin changes could be the result of something else especially if it has happened before. You can bathe her with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. If this does not help, then she should see her veterinarian. Well that was naughty of him. Since there is no toxicity concern and this is a rather small item that has a good chance of passing I would not recommend inducing vomiting. Every time we induce vomiting we do put the pet at risk of aspiration. I would continue to monitor him for signs of any trouble which includes vomiting up food and water, lack of appetite, and lethargy. However if the wrapping was small as I presume for a muffin, he will likely pass this with no issues. If he does have an upset stomach but not signs of blockage as mentioned above, then a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese can be fed for a few days along with 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) To help settle his stomach. Oh no, that was naughty of Junior! Cocoa is toxic to dogs, but it depends on how much was in the donut as to whether or not it leads to toxic symptoms. In looking up the ingredients, I see that it contains less than 2% of cocoa, so the amount in this little donut is not likely to cause toxic symptoms. Junior should be ok, but keep an eye on him for now. To be safe, you can take him into a vet to safely induce vomiting. I don't recommend inducing vomiting at home. That's because hydrogen peroxide (which is used at home to induce vomiting) can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care.
