My dog ate potatoes, threw up, but seems better. What should I do?

I am sorry to hear about Coca! It is pretty common for dogs to occasionally vomit if they ate something that didn't agree with their stomach, but we do want to be certain we don't have something more serious going on here. In puppies we especially want to watch vomiting because of a disease called Parvo virus which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and anorexia. This is a serious disease which requires aggressive treatment. Because of this, if your puppy continues to vomit, has dairrhea (especially if it has blood in it), is lethargic or not eating then she should see a vet right away. We would also worry if she ingested a large piece of uncooked potato about a possible obstruction, so this would be another reason to monitor her closely. If she seems to have a normal level of energy, is not having diarrhea and doesn't vomit any more then I would just continue to monitor her.

Hello, you should only attempt to induce vomiting with peroxide twice. If the potato was not moldy then Jody should be fine. He may have some diarrhea which may require anti-diarrhea medications, but otherwise, there are no toxins you need to worry about. If he did not chew the potato then this may be more of a problem as it could be too big and may cause an obstruction. If you think that he did not chew the potato or if you think the potato may have been moldy, then you can bring him to your veterinarian to have them induce vomiting and take radiographs tonight. Otherwise, you can monitor him at home for any vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite and have him evaluated by your veterinarian if he does develop any of these tomorrow. I would just give him a small dose of plain white boneless skinless chicken and white rice to help settle his tummy. It's always a reason to worry when a dog vomits! Given that Bosco hasn't thrown up in a little bit, I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.
