Why is my German Shepherd vomiting, itching, tired, and getting yeast?

Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, foreign body, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat.human food, intestinal disease (inflammatory bowel disease) or pancreatic disease. I am in agreement with you about your dog. German Shepherds, at least in the US have a lot of intestinal and pancreatic disease, specifically Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Sometimes they have both conditions. Symptoms of IBD are weight loss with or with out vomiting or diarrhea. Signs of EPI are weight loss and diarrhea. I recommend deworming him 3 weeks apart with Drontal plus to cover parasites: https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=1459 Then I would start him on a prescription hydrolyzed diet, you will need a prescription from a Vet. With the description you have provided I would recommend having her see n by your veterinarian to have testing done such as blood work to see why she is lethargic and vomiting. The skin condition would likely not cause the vomiting. Your vet may recommend a course of an oral antibiotic and topical therapy for the skin condition. I would also have the cysts tested to see what they are. Your vet can insert a small needle into the cysts and see what the cells are under a microscope to help determine what they could be. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am glad your Vet is involved. The limping is odd with the gastro-intestinal signs. In one dog I would think it is just random, but in 2 that is strange. It could be an immune issue like lupus or an immune polyarthropathy. If the Gi signs were from something infections (viral, fungal) that could possibly involve the bones or joints. I agree with the fecal. If the limping doesn't resolve I would do blood work on both dogs and X-ray the affected limb. It sounds like Kia should be seen again first. I wish you all the best!

I am sorry to hear that your dog isn’t feeling well. Many different problems can cause the signs your are seeing. These include Addison’s disease, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and exocrine pancreatic Insufficiency , and even cancer. EPI is common in shepherds and this could certainly happen in young dogs. Ideally an examination and blood work should be done by a veterinarian for a diagnosis. If that is the problem then adding pancreatic enzymes such as Prozyme and feeding a bland diet such as hills i/d can make a big difference. Best of luck and I hope you get an answer soon. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). She has allergies (or what we call atopy) most likely. You need to do some testing to find out what the allergies are. The diet you are feeding is not appropriate. She needs dog food and I would suggest a premium brand like Royal Canin. What you are feeding is not balanced and could be contributing to the problem. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. A single episode of vomiting is usually not of major concern. Vomiting can be caused by a number of things, such as dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have), infectious causes, inflammation of the GI tract, toxin ingestion, liver or kidney disease, etc. If he only vomited the one time and goes back to acting normally, I would not be concerned. However, if Boone continues to vomit multiple times, has a decreased appetite, or is not acting himself, I recommend having him seen by your veterinarian. Your vet can perform a physical exam and may recommend bloodwork and/or abdominal x-rays to determine a cause for the vomiting. In the mean time, you can try offering Boone a bland diet such as boiled chicken or hamburger and rice, in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat, to see if this helps settle his stomach.
