My dog ate paper towels and is lethargic. Should he go to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 53 lbs

My 53 lbs. English Bulldog ate 3 paper towels with bacon grease on them yesterday. Today he is acting lethargic, and was having trouble using the restroom but was finally able to have a bowel movement. Does he need to go to the vet?

I imagine the bacon grease and paper towels upset Dozer's stomach. It's good that he was able to pass feces. I'd keep an eye on him for now. If he's still lethargic in the morning, starts vomiting, and/or stops eating, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps.
