My dog ate a pad. Yellow poop & constipated. Vet or home care?

It is very possible, and I would be worried if he's now having vomiting and diarrhea, as that may indicate a partial blockage (where some but not all stool is able to properly pass). If his symptoms continue, or none of the pee pad is passing, I would schedule a vet visit immediately to check for foreign body.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Kobu chewed up and ingested pieces of a wee-wee pad then he is at risk for that material to become stuck. If you made him vomit, did he vomit up ALL the pieces that were missing? If he didn't vomit up pieces then hopefully he will pass them in his stool. I would feed him small amounts of water and a bland diet as small frequent meals for several days. If he refuses to eat, starts vomiting and is lethargic he needs to be seen ASAP by a Veterinarian. They will need to take X-rays to make sure he doesn't need surgery to remove the pad pieces. I hope this helps and I wish you and Kobu the best!

I would not be so much worried about possible toxicity , but rather worry about the part of the pad causing an obstruction. Can you check the pad to see if every part is there (ie put all the pieces together)? That may give you an idea of how much, if anything, your dog may have ingested. If the ingestion happened within the past 2 hours, you can take your dog to a vet who can induce vomiting before the material gets transported into the intestines. If it has been longer you will have to watch for vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. If this occurs without producing the foreign material then please take your dog to a veterinarian.

Hello. There should be no problems from eating the poop, but there is always a small chance that the diaper may cause a blockage. You just want to be aware if Chewy shows any signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, bloating or pain of any kind. If he continues to eat normally & have regular bowel movements over the next 72 hours or so, then he will be fine. Just watch for any signs of anything unusual. Oh no, that was naughty of Theo! Feminine pads are dangerous in that they are meant to absorb liquid, and thus expand when in contact with fluids. This pad can expand in his stomach due to liquids in it, and then cause a blockage in his GI tract. If he does end up with a blockage in his GI tract, he would need surgery to remove it. It would be best to take him into an ER now where he can be safely induced to vomit with a shot to get the pad out and prevent an blockage from occurring. I would take him in immediately, as vomiting has to be induced within two hours after ingestion. Good luck, I hope everything turns out ok with Theo!

If she is eating and not vomiting and is passing stool (despite the straining and it being loose) then I wouldn't be too concerned. Hopefully she is just dealing with diarrhea. The diarrhea can be from stress of moving, ate something gross that is upsetting her tummy, a virus or bacterial infection, parasites, the paper towels could be causing a blockage, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, food allergy/ sensitivity. Since she is waking up overnight I would fast her for 12-24 hours to rest the intestinal tract then restart feeding as a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 days of normal stools. If the stool hasn't improved in 2-3 days, she stops eating, starts vomiting or becomes lethargic I would have her examined by a Vet. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not be too concerned that she has not defecated yet today. The diarrhea may be due to stress colitis, or inflammation of the colon secondary to the stress of boarding. This should resolve on its own with a bland diet as you are feeding her. You can also try adding in 2 teaspoons of metamucil fiber powder to her meals twice daily to help bulk up her stool. She may not be defecating yet because her stools forming up and not coming out as quickly. I would monitor for signs of vomiting that could indicate that the watch band that she ate is causing a blockage of her intestines. This is a surgical emergency. It is possible she will pass the watch band by herself in her feces, so I recommend monitoring her feces over the next few days for passage of the band. I hope this is helpful!
