My dog ate ibuprofen late at night. Can I wait until morning for vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 22 days old | 4.4 lbs

My 3kg poodle ate half of a 200mg ibuprofen pill 2&1/2 hours ago. She seems fine for now but it's late and we can't access a vet right now. Visit first thing in the morning?

Hello. Ingesting ibuprofen over 25 mg/kg can cause significant gastrointestinal signs. Sable ingested the equivalent of 33mg/kg, so she could have some issues. See hoe she is in the morning, & try to have her seen. She may just be placed on a stomach protectant for a few days just to make sure she stays well. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
