My 13lb dog ate ibuprofen. Is 1.85mg safe? Should I see a vet?

Hello. You do not say what strength the ibuprofen was, but a 50 pound dog can take about 225 mg every 12-24 hours. Toxicity may be seen if your dog ingested around 568 mg. If the tablet was 400 mg or less, Zeke will be fine, but if this was a 600mg tablet or more, you should contact your veterinarian. Hello. Ingesting ibuprofen over 25 mg/kg can cause significant gastrointestinal signs. Sable ingested the equivalent of 33mg/kg, so she could have some issues. See hoe she is in the morning, & try to have her seen. She may just be placed on a stomach protectant for a few days just to make sure she stays well. The low end of the toxic dose range is 50mg/kg, which is about 1500mg. He should be fine but if you begin to notice signs of vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or inappetance then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Ibuprofen should not be given to dogs as even in small amounts it can be toxic. I recommend that you have Baby girl evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello! I have great news for you! Watson is a big enough dog that the amount of Ibuprofen he ate should not cause any toxicity. I would not expect to see any problems as a result of this. He should be his normal, goofy Labrador self today. Ibuprofen at higher toxic doses can cause serious bleeding from the stomach and kidney failure, so thanks for checking to be sure! :) I hope this is helpful! Hi there. We can see serious GI side effects, including stomach ulcers and internal bleeding, at ibuprofen doses over 50 mg/kg. If Dubs is 35 pounds and may have ingested 1200 mg of ibuprofen, this would be about 75 mg/kg - so yes, he would be at risk of developing some serious problems. I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam. The veterinarian may recommend checking some lab work to see if there is any evidence of bleeding in his stomach, and will probably prescribe medication to help protect his stomach lining for the next few days until the ibuprofen is out of his system.

That one dose should not hurt her but you need to watch out for side effects. Dogs can take ibuprofen but it has a narrow safety margin and has high probability of causing side effects with repeated administration or overdose. The dose is 5-8mg/kg so at the high end of the dose she could have taken 300mg. So, again, that one dose I would not be worried but DO NOT let her get anymore and monitor for side effects.
