My dog ate hot food. Can hot food burn my dog's mouth or tongue?

There is no reason why your dog should or should not eat food at similar temperatures to what humans would eat (as long as it will not burn his mouth). Dogs are generaly happy to eat food at room temperature and there is no need to heat it

Unfortunately it is possible but Zoe may also be completely fine and not have any problems (especially because she may not have swallowed anything). Rinse her mouth out if you have not already done so and then wash your hands well. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The skin lesions on the scrotum and nose could be related to allergies, but not the tongue. The tongue looks very sore and it does resemble chemical burn. Please, take Diesel to your vets, as this must be very painful for hm. He also may have burn to the esophagus and the stomach if he swallowed the corrosive substance.

Oh no. Poor Benson! Thoroughly look at the area first to see if there are any major injuries or burns that warrant an immediate vet visit. If there is a significant skin burn then take him to your local veterinarian for care. However if the skin appears normal then give him time to acclimate himself again. It may take them a couple of hours to a couple of days to regain his trust and to subside his fear. Speak softly and in a slightly high pitched tone, showering him with love and affection. Then try to distract him by playing his favorite game or with his favorite toy, then take him on a short walk around the neighborhood or play in your backyard. This will help reset his mind and put his focus on other things so that he can slowly get over this traumatic event. Brave girl! She may develop some vomiting and or diarrhea, as this food may cause some irritation to her GI tract. Offer her a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice for the next couple of days. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The short answer is no. Their esophagus is more sensitive than ours and also dogs just will not drink it as it does not feel right and they do not really understand why a warm drink is a good idea. Have a good night!

If he is drinking water and eating fine, he is likely ok. If he is not eating or wanting to drink, he may have sustained burns in his mouth and in that case, I would have him examined by a veterinarian. However, I'm sure he will be fine. So keep a close eye on him and if you notice any changes, I would then take him in to be seen by a veterinarian. I hope this helps!
