My Chihuahua ate hot dogs and has an upset stomach. Is he okay?

Rockie is adorable and I'm sorry to hear that he isn't feeling well. After eating a heavy, greasy meal, he may have developed gastroenteritis (inflammation in his stomach and intestines) or pancreatitis. Aside from assuring that he is drinking water and offering a bit of a bland diet (boiled white meat chicken and rice) as you have done, there isn't anything more that can be done at home. Young puppies are more susceptible to the effects of dehydration than adult dogs and need to be treated a bit more urgently. At this point, Rockie needs to take a trip to the vet for an exam, diagnostic testing and supportive care (IV fluids and medications). I hope that he is feeling better soon!

Rocky needs to be eating a bland diet to help stop the diarrhea. You can purchase food for sensitive stomachs or feed boiled chicken and rice for a few days. Since he’s a small, young dog I recommend a fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites, and getting medication from your veterinarian to stop the diarrhea. There is little to worry about with him eating a whole hot dog. The most that could happen is he ends-up with an upset stomach and has a temporary bout of vomiting and/or diarrhea. If that does happen, then it's best to feed him a bland diet for a couple of days until things get back to normal. I hope that helps and all is well with Murphy.

Cat food tends to be higher in fat and calories than dog food and could cause an upset stomach. If Oreo ate enough cat food he could also have 'food bloat' where the stomach becomes distended with food and causes discomfort. If he is not vomiting and does not seem painful he may not require any veterinary care. If you think his stomach is distended with food frequent short walks could help everything move through his gastrointestinal tract. If he does begin vomiting, if he misses more than one meal, or if he becomes painful you will probably need to see a veterinarian.

Poor Marley! It could be the hot dog has upset his stomach, leading to the vomiting. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Congratulations ok the new puppy. There are many chases if diarrhea in a young puppy. Sudden diet change, GI parasites, eating food that irritates their stomach (such as the hot dogs), or something more serious like parvo or distemper virus. diarrhea and get the appropriate treatment. If he is eating and otherwise acting playful, I would recommend you stop feeding him the hot dog treats and add canned pumpkin to his diet to help firm up his stool. Hello, sorry to hear about Rocky. It sounds like he is feeling unwell but these signs are non-specific. It may be caused by multiple reasons, most often a dietary indiscretion, ingestion of foreign material, or in puppies this young an infection with a virus or parasite may cause this. If Rocky is not eating by tomorrow, or if he begins to vomit, have diarrhea, or lethargy then he needs to be evaluated by his veterinarian immediately. You can offer him a bland diet tomorrow of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken and cottage cheese low fat. Hope this helps and best of luck.
