My dog ate a ham and cheese sandwich. Is it safe? What now?

He might get an upset stomach from eating the hot sauce. You will need to monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, and/or lethargy. If you notice anything abnormal then he will need to be examined by your vet for treatment.

The good news is, there is nothing about a BBQ pork sandwich that is inherently toxic to dogs so you don't need to worry about that :) I would say that your dog will probably be just fine - you may see some stomach upset, such as mild vomiting and/or diarrhea for the next 24 hours or so since his system is probably not used to food like this. Occasionally, a serious illness like pancreatitis could result from eating something this kind of table food, so I would recommend taking Hershey to the vet if he has vomiting/diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours, or if he becomes very lethargic or doesn't want to eat.

Ham is safe. At most it would cause an upset stomach, which could cause vomiting and/or diarrhea, but nothing serious. Oh no, that's not good that Heart ate a ham bone! Unfortunately there's not much you can do but watch her. It's not recommended to induce vomiting as the bone could get caught in her esophagus on the way out and/or cause damage to the esophagus. You can try giving her a slice of whole wheat bread now and one with every meal. This may form a ball of ingesta around the bone and cushion it as it passes through the GI tract. Keep an eye out for vomiting, anorexia, blood in the feces, diarrhea, and lethargy. If you see any of those signs, it could be the bone is stuck in her GI tract and/or causing damage to it, and she needs to see a vet for it immediately. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

No you don’t need to take him to the vet right now. If he start acting lethargic, stops eating, or starts vomiting or having diarrhea, then yes I would take him to your vet then. Your vet will be able to get him started on something to help settle his tummy and make him feel better. I agree that ham isn’t the best thing to feed them, but some dogs will eat a little bit and not have a problem. Just watch him closely. I hope this helps!
