My puppy ate grapes. Does he need more bloodwork after vet visit?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 8 days old | 40 lbs

Hi, My 7 month old, 40lbs puppy, got 1/2 grape to maybe 1.5 grapes (I caught him playing with a half eaten one) last night. I was able to get him to a vet within 2 hours, and they induced vomiting. I didn’t see any grapes in the vomit- just kibble that he ate about 3 hours prior to the grape incident. He hasn’t shown any symptoms or signs yet, should I still bring him back tonight and tomorrow for more bloodwork? He is terrified at the animal hospital and I don’t want to traumatize him more

Poor Pots. Yes, I would take him back into the vet now for blood work for baseline kidney values if this hasn't been done yet. If he did get blood work at the vet, then I would wait and bring him back into the vet in three days for additional blood work. If you do see any signs of kidney failure, take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.
