My dog ate grapes. What should I do if I can't get to the vet?

I'm so glad you took Peanut to the emergency clinic right away and that they were able to make him vomit up the grape. The concern for the next few hours is that since they gave him medication to vomit the grape, some dogs will continue to be nauseated (despite anti-nausea medication) and will vomit again if fed or allowed too much water. So, that is the concern for the next few hours. If there is a possibility that Peanut ate any additional grapes, I would recommend having blood checked in 3 days to make sure his kidney values are normal. Otherwise, as long as Peanut returns to his normal appetite and energy level without any vomiting, there aren't any special instructions for grape ingestion that was immediately vomited. It is too late for activated charcoal, and I am concerned about the red in her vomit. That's because it's a sign of bleeding in the GI tract. I don't recommend inducing vomiting at home, as the substance used to induce vomiting, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), can and does cause gastritis and esophagitis often worse than the initial problem. It could be that Cookie is suffering from those if you induced vomiting with H2O2. I would have her seen by a vet right away, as she may need gut protectants if there was damage done to her GI tract from the H2O2.

I'm glad that your vet recommended that Charlie vomit up the grape that he'd eaten. The biggest challenge with grape ingestion is that there is no known "safe" amount. With this type of potential toxicity, some dogs can experience acute kidney failure after eating just one grape, while others can be perfectly fine after eating a bunch. As far as using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, some studies have shown that there can be considerable damage and irritation to the esophagus and stomach due to hydrogen peroxide. Generally, I do not recommend using it for this reason. I understand that it's really challenging to measure and force-feed this substance, so it's really easy to give a little extra. Since Charlie has not stopped vomiting and is acting normally, odds are very good that he'll be absolutely fine. Just keep a close eye on him for changes in his overall demeanor, appetite, vomiting, hard swallowing (gulping not associated with eating or drinking), or any other concerns. If problems arise, be sure to take him to your vet, but again, odds are very much in your favor. I hope that everything goes well!

Oh no, poor Rosie! Grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause acute kidney failure, leading to signs of lethargy, vomiting and inappetence. Rosie needs to go to an ER vet immediately, as this could be a life-threatening emergency. The vet will be able to examine her, determine her kidney values on lab testing (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis), and start her on IV fluid therapy with other supportive medications. Good luck!

If it was only one grape and you managed to take it whole out, you don't need to take him to the vet, he will be fine. if you suspect he might have eaten even one entire grape then you need to take him to the emergency vet to get an injection to induce vomiting.

Every dog is different and 1 grape could be toxic to one dog and it could take 100 grapes to cause toxicity to the next. I recommend calling your vet for options to decontaminate Poppy. Hello, sorry to hear about Honey. You should take her to your veterinarian and to have them induce vomiting immediately. She may need to be monitored for the next 48 hours for any elevation in her kidney enzymes.
