My dog ate glass and vets are closed. What should I do now?

Watch for vomiting, excessive drooling, blood coming from her mouth, diarrhea, blood in her poop, lethargy, or a loss of appetite. If you see any of those signs, Abby will have to see a vet. Vets will see animals for medical emergencies during this time.

I had a boxer who did that once with a Christmas ornament! I would venture to guess that she probably bled from her mouth. Most likely it was her tongue. There are not a lot of great options to prevent problems. Hopefully any glass pieces were small. Some options you have would be to have her seen right away by a veterinary practice that has the ability to retrieve objects from the stomach with endoscopy. This requires anesthesia but not surgery. The other option is to wait it out. Monitor for any signs of lethargy, vomiting, or decreased appetite. These would be signs that there is a possible intestinal problem. If the glass is small and not attached to anything else then it will typically be able to move through the intestinal tract. However, there is always a chance of perforation. If the intestinal tract perforates then she will need extensive surgery and it is a very serious and potentially fatal situation. I would encourage you to at least call or go see your veterinarian to discuss the size of the glass pieces and what the best recommendation would be at that time. I would not induce Sadie to vomit, as I would be concerned that any sharp edges from the nylabone could cause trauma to her esophagus as it comes out. The first thing to do is to feed her a slice of whole wheat bread. This should form a ball of ingesta around the pieces of the nylabone. Give her this slice of bread with every meal. The only thing you can do is monitor her for signs of obstruction, as the nylabone could become stuck in her GI tract. Signs include vomiting, anorexia, extreme lethargy, and diarrhea. If you see any of those signs, you need to take her into a vet immediately. I would also monitor her feces for signs of the nylabone, and if you don't see any signs of it in 72 hours, I would take Sadie into the vet.

I would recommend to call the Pet Poison Control hotline to make sure there are no toxic components within the fuse its self. If there is a potential for a toxin, take him into the vet immediately to make him vomit it back up. If no toxicity is present, the small fuse will likely pass in a dog Apollo's size. Feeding him bread (3-5 slices) will help to bulk around the fuse and hopefully prevent it from breaking and allowing the glass to be a problem. As long as there is not a danger of toxins, monitor him closely for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or not wanting to eat as these could all be signs that the fuse is causing a problem. As long as your dog is not lethargic, retching and /or having diarrhea you can probably wait a few days in case you cannot take your dog to a vet tomorrow. However if any of those signs show then this is an emergency and your dog needs to be seen by a vet right away as there may be an intestinal obstruction caused by more stones. She will likely have more stones in her stomach, as dogs make it a habit to eat stones. These probably can be removed by making her regurgitate them with a medicine called apomorphine, or removed endoscopically , if they are still in the stomach, or via surgery.

This will likely exit the body with feces. It is not really big enough to cause trouble in a dog the sixe of a Shetland Sheep dog. I would monitor his poop and check it for the next three or four days. You will probably find it. If your dog starts having diarrhea or/and vomiting then you will need to take him to a vet as it might have gotten stuck somewhere. The same is valid if his stool turns black, or if there is frank blood in the stool.
