My dog ate foxglove. When will I see symptoms and what should I do?

Typically you will start to see symptoms of hosta poisoning shortly after ingestion. These symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. It can also cause twisting of the intestines. Because she only ate the tip of the hosta plant, she may not have ingested enough to cause toxic symptoms, but I would monitor her for the next 24-48 hours to be safe. If the toad was toxic, you’d see symptoms such as head shaking, severe drooling, and pawing at the mouth and eyes almost immediately. Because it’s been 10 minutes since Max picked up the toad, I would suspect it’s not poisonous. I would not rush him into the ER vet, but keep an eye on him to be safe. Hello. If a dangerous or toxic amount of antifreeze was consumed, stage 1 symptoms can show up as early as 30 minutes & include vomiting, ataxia, weakness or depression. Signs may subside in an hour or two before progressing to a swift decline in health 6-12 hours post ingestion. During this stage, you may see panting & a significant increase in thirst & also urination. Complete shutdown of the kidneys usually occurs around 72 - 96 hours post ingestion. So if you are seeing absolutely no signs at 12 hours, you are probably OK, but if there are ever any doubts, take your dog to your vet because bloodwork will be the best way to diagnose a suspicion rather than waiting to see if anything develops ( which may now be too late to treat ).
