Studies have shown that ingestion of even very large doses have no adverse effects. However, there is some risk of obstruction or blockage of the intestinal tract from undigested capsules. If your maltese stops eating or begins vomiting, I recommend seeking veterinary attention to rule out an obstruction. Make sure he has access to plenty of water, and you may consider adding water to his food to help the capsules break down.
