My dog ate chocolate coated licorice. Is it toxic? What should I do?

I would take her to a vet asap as there is a compound in black licorice that can be toxic in high doses. It can cause issues with blood pressure. Hopefully she has brought most of it up when she vomited though. The vet will be able to check her out and make sure all is okay. She will likely have s sire stomach regardless, and the vet will be able to administer some medications to settle the stomach and make her feel better.

That's a fair amount of chocolate, and if any of those chocolates were dark chocolate, that is very concerning. Dark chocolate is the most toxic type, and takes the least amount to cause toxicity. I would take your dog into a vet immediately, as they can give her a shot to induce vomiting. They can also give her activated charcoal. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

The toxicity depends on how much chocolate Napolean actually ate. Figure out how much chocolate Napolean actually ate. I would recommend to call the Pet Poison Control hotline: 855-764-7661. They can calculate the amount that Napoleon ate and accurately tell you if it is toxic or not. Milk chocolate is generally less toxic which is what it sounds like Napoelon got into. According to the VCA website: Toxic doses of theobromine are reported to be as low as 20 mg/kg, where agitation, hyperactivity and gastrointestinal signs (such as drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea - all which may smell like chocolate) can be seen. Now its just figuring out how much chocolate Napoleon ate. I hope this helps!

Poor pup! Depending on how big your dog is, it's hard to say whether toxicity from the chocolate in the medication will be a problem. As far as the laxative itself, this will probably cause diarrhea but would not be expected to cause any serious toxicity issues. The safest bet would be to have your dog seen by a vet right away, but if this isn't possible, you will need to monitor her closely for the next 24-48 hours. If you see symptoms such as tremors, seizures, or repeated episodes of vomiting, then this would be an emergency and there would be no other option except getting her to a vet immediately.

It really depends on the type of chocolate and his weight. If he is an adult lab and ate 3 milk chocolate covered pretzels than it is probably not a concern. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, and the severity is dependent on the amount of chocolate eaten. If you can determine the type of chocolate (white, milk, dark, etc.) and the exact amount (number of ounces or grams), then you can call your local 24 hour clinic and ask if that amount is toxic or not. If it is, then you will need to get Vito to throw up, and then depending on what is thrown up and how much chocolate was ingested, IV fluids, and medications, might be required. Chocolate toxicity causes vomiting, diarrhea, tachycardia (high heart rate), arrythmias (Abnormal heart beat rhythm), tremors, seizures and death, often in that order, depending on how much was eaten. Both candies contain chocolate, but not that much and Jim is a big dog so I am not expecting Chocolate toxicity in his case but it could cause vomiting, diarrhea and constipation, you will need to keep an eye on his stools in the next few days.
