Dog ate bones, now lethargic, not eating, and in pain. What's wrong?

Oh no, it's not good your aunt gave Kiba sheep bones! It's a good sign that he is eating, drinking normally, and seems fine on walks. I would monitor him for now. Should he start vomiting, stops eating, stops drinking, has diarrhea, has blood in his feces, has blood in his vomit, or becomes constipated then I would be extremely concerned and have him seen by a vet immediately. These are signs of an obstruction and perforation of the intestinal tract, and it is a medical emergency. Should that happen, Kiba would need surgery. I understand being concerned about this lethargy, and if it continues over the next 48 hours, I would take him back into the vet for an exam. I hope this helps :-)

This is very serious and he needs immediate veterinary attention. The bones are probably still in his stomach and intestinal tract and the diarrhea can quickly result in dehydration. Many dogs also get pancreatitis from eating rich, fatty foods. He will need fluids, an X-ray to determine where the bones are, and possibly surgery. My dog ate rib bones and he needed to be hospitalized and the bones surgically removed. Again this can become life threatening quickly so please take him in for treat soon. I'm quite concerned this bone is causing Simba's problems. Bones should never be given to dogs because they cause obstructions, and he is potentially showing signs of an obstruction. You need to take him into a vet immediately.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry Shadow isn't feeling well. It could be pancreatitis but it could also be just general stomach upset. He ate something his body isn't used to and there were sharp bone fragments. He could also have a piece of the bone stuck somewhere. I would recommend taking him to the vet because he is young and I don't want him to dehydrate. They may need to take X-rays. They can then give him medications to calm his stomach. In the future I would not recommend giving Shadow any bones for fear of the above things. Good luck and kisses to Shadow!

If Scooby has been lethargic and not eating, especially after eating 3 chew bones, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having abdominal x-rays taken to see if he has developed a foreign object intestinal obstruction from the bone chews. He may also be dehydrated, have pancreatitis, etc. It is impossible for me to say for sure without examining him and performing diagnostics. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor girl. I think both are a possibility here since they produce almost the exact same symptoms. Although you generally see more lethargy, smaller stool sizes and vomiting of both water and food in pets with an obstruction. At any rate Isabella should definitely be seen by your vet for testing (bloodwork + radiographs) and treatment based on what the final diagnosis is. I hope your fur baby is able to feel better soon! This sounds quite serious for Beautifull. Pork bones can splinter and cause significant damage to the esophagus, stomach and intestines. In some cases, they can perforate the gastrointestinal tract or cause an obstruction/blockage. Unless a parasite burden is enormous, worms are highly unlikely to cause an obstruction. However, if she did have a huge flea infestation, she could have developed anemia (low red blood cell count) as a result of the fleas consuming her blood. Since this has been going on for another 36 hours, I am concerned that Beautifull may be severely dehydrated and/or anemic, which may be contributing to her severe lethargy. Beautifull needs to be seen by a vet immediately for an exam, red blood cell count (on a CBC or PCV), and abdominal x-rays to get to the source of her problem. In the future, make sure she receives a high quality flea preventative (Nexgard, Bravecto, Advantix) once per month.
