My dog ate a bone and tampons, now she's vomiting blood. Is it an emergency?

Yes, this could be blood, and Savi has to see a vet immediately. She could be experiencing a perforation of her GI tract from the bone, or she could have an obstruction from it. This is a medical emergency, and she needs an x-ray to see if the bone has caused an obstruction, as well as a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis. Please take Savi into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her ASAP.

Poor Lady! Eating tissue paper should not normally cause any significant issues unless she ate a very large amount, so this is probably not related. Vomiting blood is always a very serious concern, so I would recommend taking Lady to the vet right away for an exam. She may have internal bleeding due to a stomach ulcer or foreign body, a GI illness such as pancreatitis or HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), or may have gotten into something toxic. Your vet can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment right away.

If she is vomiting blood, it is best if she is treated by an ER vet. The more she continues to vomit, the worse it can become. It may be a sign of an obstruction or may be an ulcer from something else.

I'm glad the tampon came out! And you certainly are not the first one that's happened too. Hydrogen peroxide can often successfully induce vomiting as in Khloe's case, which is good. However, it also causes significant irritation to the wall of the stomach. This can cause bleeding in the stomach. Digested blood appears brown. Therefore I am concerned that Khloe may have some pretty significant gastritis. I would recommend that you get her to a vet, they will likely prescribe a medication called sucralfate (carafate) that is very helpful in cases of severe gastritis. An acid reducer such as Pepcid may be indicated as well--however I would not recommend giving that without first seeing a vet. If she happened to eat anything else strange from the trash, stomach acid is a vital part of digesting material and making it most likely to be able to pass through. Taking her in would certainly be my first recommendation. However, If you want to avoid going to the vet if possible, and she only vomited brown liquid once, and she is otherwise acting ok--active, happy, interested in whats going on around her, eating when offered--its reasonable to give her 24 hours with small amounts of boiled chicken/white rice to eat, and see how she does. Keep fresh water available at all times but don't allow her to drink large volumes at a time. If at any point she becomes lethargic, has no interest in food, or she vomits more than 2-3 times in a 12-24 hour period, take her in. Poor Aj! I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam, as from your description I'm concerned that he may have an intestinal blockage or some damage to his stomach or intestines from the bone. Your veterinarian can take x-rays to assess the situation and see what needs to be done.

Poor girl. It sounds like Lemon may have a stomach ulcer or even just irritation of her esophagus. She really needs to see a vet soon to have this treated. If she otherwise seems stable and isn't extremely lethargic or have pale gums, then it may be ok to wait until morning to get Lemon seen. There are regular clinics open on Sunday such as Banfield or VCA, so its best to call them first before resorting to an EC clinic. Its best to feed her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice to help settle her stomach somewhat until she can be seen by a vet.
