My dog ate plastic and threw up blood clots. Does she need a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 45 lbs

My dog ate a plastic cap of some sort and just threw up blood clots 4 times. She hasn’t vomited in 20 min and her stomach isn’t sensitive to the touch... will her esophagus heal itself or does she need medical attention?

If she is vomiting blood, it is best if she is treated by an ER vet. The more she continues to vomit, the worse it can become. It may be a sign of an obstruction or may be an ulcer from something else.
