My dog ate plastic and threw up blood clots. Does she need a vet?

Possible reasons include a gastric ulcer, toxin ingestion, a bleeding mass in the stomach, or a foreign body causing trauma to the stomach lining. The vet can perform a full physical exam, assess for anemia, and may suggest x-rays, ultrasound and/or blood work to determine the underlying cause. At minimum, they can prescribe supportive medications to help reduce any further bleeding, and minimize vomiting. There is always the possibility that there is more frisbee in her stomach and/or intestinal tract. Toys such as these do have the potential for causing an intestinal obstruction. I would not take her into a vet now, but monitor her for the next 72 hours. If she continues to vomit, stops eating, starts having diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts throwing up water, or becomes very lethargic, those are signs of obstruction, and then I would take her into a vet right away.

Vomiting bright red blood is always a concern, so I would recommend taking her to the vet right away for an exam - she may have eaten something toxic, or could have a stomach ulcer, a foreign body that has caused some damage her to her stomach, or even a systemic bleeding disorder of some kind. If she has been vomiting multiple times in the last 24 hours, this can also sometimes cause blood in the vomiting due to irritation of the stomach and esophagus. Your vet can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine what is causing the bloody vomit, and get Snowflake started on appropriate treatment for the problem right away.

I would have phivo evaluated by a veterinarian. Vomiting and diarrhea with blood can be caused by viruses such as parvovirus (if he isn't vaccinated fully) or can be caused by irritation in the stomach and bowel from eating things he shouldn't or by certain foods that don't agree with him. A veterinarian will be able to make sure phivo is hydrated, give him medication for vomiting and diarrhea, and do tests such as fecal exam or x-rays to sort out what is going on. If you absolutely cannot get him in right away, I would fast him for 12 hours then feed a bland diet exclusively (boiled skinless chicken breast and white rice). If your pup has eaten a foreign body such as plastic it is possible she has a partial obstruction which is why she is still able to eat and pass some (soft) stools. It would be best to bring her into a vet ASAP to have her examined for a foreign body or other issues such as GI upset, parasites, illness, etc, so that she can be treated, especially since this issue has been ongoing for weeks.
