Dog ate a bone, now has diarrhea. Is it an intestinal blockage?

Oh no, it's not good that David ate that bone! Diarrhea can be a sign of obstruction, and it is likely that the steak bone can lead to an obstruction. I would take him into a vet immediately for x-rays. There's nothing you can do at home from him, if he does have an obstruction from the bone, he needs surgery to remove it. Please take him into a vet right away.

You should never give your dog bones, it is possible that he has an intestinal blockage due to the bone ingestion, i strongly recommend taking him to the vet ASAP in order to have an xray done. if the bone is still there and blocking the GI system, a surgery to have the bone removed is necessary.

Since you're seeing bloody stool or bloody [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/diarrhea-1/), I recommend getting her in to see your vet as soon as possible. One of the sharp bone ends may have caused irritation or internal injury. Bright, red blood may indicate injury in the colon or lower intestine while dark, tarry stool may indicate bleeding in the stomach or upper intestine. If she is not passing the bones she needs to be seen right away. However, if she is behaving normally otherwise, you may be able to[ manage the bloody diarrhea at home](https://www.petcoach.co/article/6-things-you-can-do-at-home-if-your-pet-has-diarrhea). Help 'pad' the bones passing through by offering bulky meals for a few days and even consider adding some unflavored Metamucil to wet food for her. Monitor for the following symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, obvious abdominal pain, black tarry stools or blood in the stool, lethargy. Poor Devious! Many dogs will have an upset stomach after eating something like this. The biggest concern is that the rib bones can have sharp edges and may cause an intestinal perforation, or they could become stuck and cause a blockage in her intestines. Signs of these problems would include repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, and not wanting to eat - if she develops any of these symptoms, she needs to see a vet immediately as she may need emergency surgery to remove the bones. If she is acting normal right now apart from some runny stool, you can try feeding her a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days to help settle her stomach and get things back to normal. Poor Dakota. It sounds like he feels really bad. Bones can splinter in the GI tract and cause quite a bit of damage and pain, so I would recommend having your veterinarian examine him to make sure that he doesn't have any more bone fragments in his GI tract that are causing a problem. You vet can also prescribe an antibiotic that will help resolve the diarrhea and prevent any problems that the bone may have caused in the GI tract to help him feel better ASAP. Good luck! I'm quite concerned this bone is causing Simba's problems. Bones should never be given to dogs because they cause obstructions, and he is potentially showing signs of an obstruction. You need to take him into a vet immediately.

Poor girl. I think both are a possibility here since they produce almost the exact same symptoms. Although you generally see more lethargy, smaller stool sizes and vomiting of both water and food in pets with an obstruction. At any rate Isabella should definitely be seen by your vet for testing (bloodwork + radiographs) and treatment based on what the final diagnosis is. I hope your fur baby is able to feel better soon!
