My dog ate ants, is trembling and can't stand. Is this serious?

Difficulty walk or standing, also known as ataxia, is definitely a cause for concern. This may be caused by neurological issues or a toxin. Xhesi should be seen by a vet immediately to determine the cause and be stabilized if necessary.

I recommend rinsing out his mouth to make sure there are no ants still in the mouth. Give him Benadryl also. There is a section on this website that has information about common over the counter medications and the dosage. Keep him up and moving. Without knowing if she ate the ants or what kind she ate, it would be hard to say. Most ants that crawl around on food tend not to be toxic, but some can sting or have toxic bites, and if she immediately threw up after, she likely purged them. If she continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness such as extreme lethargy, pale gums or tongue, staggering or confusion, drooling, bloody diarrhea or vomiting, etc, then these are all signs of possible toxicity which should be seen by a veterinarian immediately.

That would not hurt. But, if he is doing OK, you can try giving 1.5 tablets of the children's 12.5 MG tablet benadryl to help with histamine release. If he begins to swell, have hives, or trouble breathing, he would need to go in.

Depending on where you live, the only concern with eating ants is if they are fire ants. Fire ants tend to cause significant irritation when they bite, so those bites can be problematic (although my previous dog ate them on a regular basis). Dogs can be allergic to bees and stings will swell. It could be possible that she was stung by a bee, but my answer is still the same, she needs emergency veterinary care now. Swelling from bee stings in the mouth can and do cause the airways to be blocked off, leading to respiratory distress and death. She sounds very ill, and if there was anything you could do at home for her, I would tell you. There honestly isn't, she needs to see a vet right away.

Dentrathin poisoning causes mainly the symptoms you are describing, i strongly recommend taking him right away to the vet in order to get an anti vomiting injection as well as fluid therapy to flush the poison from his system.
