My dog ate ant granules and is throwing up. What should I do now?

Without knowing if she ate the ants or what kind she ate, it would be hard to say. Most ants that crawl around on food tend not to be toxic, but some can sting or have toxic bites, and if she immediately threw up after, she likely purged them. If she continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness such as extreme lethargy, pale gums or tongue, staggering or confusion, drooling, bloody diarrhea or vomiting, etc, then these are all signs of possible toxicity which should be seen by a veterinarian immediately.

Typically, ant poison is minimally toxic according to the Pet Poison Hotline, but given that Callie is showing signs of toxicity with the vomiting, it would be best to have her evaluated by the vet. I would call the vet right away to get her in to be seen.

Dentrathin poisoning causes mainly the symptoms you are describing, i strongly recommend taking him right away to the vet in order to get an anti vomiting injection as well as fluid therapy to flush the poison from his system.

The next step would be administering activated charcoal (this can be bought over-the-counter at pharmacies). In the meantime, offer small frequent amounts of water to help keep him hydrated. Monitor him for the development of diarrhea. If this happens, collect a fresh sample to take to your appointment. Borax can be toxic to dogs if enough is ingested. It would be best to contact your vet or an ER clinic ASAP if he ate some. You can also contact the Pet Poison Helpline (there is a fee for this service) at https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/ if you know how much he ate to see if it was a toxic amount that requires monitoring or immediate care. If you don't know the amount, seeking care in person ASAP is best.

I recommend rinsing out his mouth to make sure there are no ants still in the mouth. Give him Benadryl also. There is a section on this website that has information about common over the counter medications and the dosage. Keep him up and moving.
