My dog ate Aleve. Is 100mg safe for a 40lb dog? What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | neutered | 7 years and 11 months old | 37 lbs

My 40lb Australian shepherd at 100mg of Aleve. This must have happened about 3 hours ago. He seems fine. Good appetite, thrist, normal bowels. What should I do?

Naproxen is toxic to dogs, however it has been used in exceptional situations at typically 2mg/kg. Your dog weighs 40 lbs, ie 18 kg , so did not ingest a dangerous amount of Naproxen at 100mg. Please make sure to keep all medications locked up so your dog cannot reach and eat them.
