Can my dog's aspergillus nasal fungus spread to my other dogs?

Aspergillosis will usually cause a marked nasal discharge and in most cases also nose bleeds and it does not sound like those are present. Hopefully this resolves and Aster does well which is likely. It sounds like your veterinarian is doing a great job with a difficult disease. I'm glad to hear that Wiley seems to be a little better after his last procedure. I think adding oral anti-fungal medication sounds like a great idea, so I think we will just need to wait to see adding the Fluconazole is sufficient. Sometimes we need to combine oral anti-fungal medications. My latest case of aspergillus is being treated with Terbinafine and Voriconazole which are expensive, but seem to be working well. I would worry that at some point the antifungals would not keep the disease under control, or that the antifungals might cause toxicity to the liver and kidneys. This might be a better question for the vet who is managing the aspergillosis however.

Poor Mazie! A fungal infection like aspergillosis is certainly one possible cause of persistent sneezing and nosebleeds that are not resolved with antibiotics. Other possibilities would include a nasal foreign body, or a nasal tumor. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about the next steps from here to try and get a diagnosis. In many cases, referral to a specialist for rhinoscopy and a CT scan is needed to determine the problem.

It's true, the possible side effects are very scary. But this is true of most antifungals and unfortunately they are the only treatment for aspergillosis. The appropriate dose should be determined by your veterinarian who is familiar with Marley's medical history. It could take weeks or even months for the antifungal to start working, depending on the severity of the current infection. If he is really struggling, I would urge you to call your vet to see if additional medications or hospitalization for oxygen therapy is indicated.

The incubation period is from 5 to 12 weeks. Some animals don't show clinical signs for a long time after being infected, but those animals are not contagious to other animals and people. Left nasal cavity seems full of discharge and bone seems affected as well (so whatever is inside is causing bone erosion as well). It is not possible to determine what it is specifically from the CT images and a further investigation is unfortunately needed. Was rhinoscopy performed? was a biopsy taken? Otherwise aggressive treatment for fungal infection is required (not only oral treatment but often ''flush'' of the nasal cavity is necessary to have substantial results.
