My dog has a scab in her armpit. Is it a cut or something else?

Ouch! That's quite the sore spot. It's possible it was snagged on something, or Shylah was licking/scratching at the spot. Since it's a rather large wound, it'd be a good idea to have your vet take a look so they can clean and clip around it and provide you with any antibiotics or pain meds as needed. Until then, keeping her from licking at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar, and keeping the area clean and dry may help reduce irritation.

Hi ! It is difficult to tell 100% from the pictures as you only can only gather some information. It does look like the black scab is necrotic (dead ) tissue, possibly due to lying on a hard surface for prolonged periods of time. The necrotic tissue has partially come off exposing some live and bleeding tissue. This is my impression ! I would recommend to have Riabow checked over so that she can receive some treatment, this wound will cause lots of discomfort !

This looks like a scab. He could have gotten this after a little bug bite, a local skin infection, a minor injury from being in the yard, or something else. Since it is so small, I would not be too concerned right now. If it isn't healing, you see discharge, you find more spots, or this spot gets larger, I would have your vet take a look at it to see if he needs any oral meds or other treatment to help it heal. If this just appears to be a crusted area and is not raised, it is possible this was an insect bite that got irritated or a small scratch/wound. If the lesion is raised (I can't really tell from the appearance) then we sometimes get warty skin growths that can get traumatized and bleed/crust over. I would wash the area with a mild soap or Hibiclens (available at most drug stores) and apply a topical antibiotic like Polysporin or Neosporin a few times day. If she is scratching/rubbing at the area she may need an e-collar for a few days to stop self-trauma. If the lesions isn't improving after several days of this or it starts to get larger/other spots appear then these would be reasons to seek veterinary care.

According to the picture this looks like a wart that Lady scratched and now has a scab on it. Since she is bothering with it and seems uncomfortable I would take her to see your veterinarian. They can make sure it is nothing else like a scratch that got infected or a different type of growth that go infected and scabbed over. They also will be able to give her a topical ointment to place on the area to help with any type of infection. If this is something that continues to bother her or scab over I would recommend removing it so it does not continually get infected and bother her. If she is scratching at it I would put an e-collar on her so she does not make it worse. As dogs age it is very common for them to get more warts like these, some may bother them while others will not.

It doesn't appear to be related to fleas. It could be an injury but it could also be the start of a tumor. I would recommend you leave it alone and monitor it for about a week. Don't pick at it or apply anything to it. If it is just a scab from an injury it should be much improved if not all the way healed in that time frame. It's really difficult to know what this is without seeing it. Usually these scabby patches indicate an infection. It may be worthwhile getting some medicated pet wipes from the pet store and wiping the area twice a day. Usually these infections clear-up within two weeks by keeping it clean. If the lesion is not getting better, or is getting worse in the next week, then I recommend having a vet evaluate it a bit further. There are other potential causes of this that can get much worse if not treated soon. I hope that helps and Daisy gets better soon.
