Is it okay to give my dog antibiotics after a recent rabies vaccine?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered

Can I give antibiotic (co-amoxiclac) to my 2 year old dog who recently got his rabies shot 2 days ago? Is it safe and wont compromise my dog’s health and effectiveness of the rabies vaccine and antibiotic? Thanks.

The vaccination will be effective and it would't need to be repeated. However, Jap's immune system may be slightly down after vaccination and giving him antibiotics now may weaken his immune system further. Please, get in touch with your vet to make sure that your dog does need a course of oral antibiotics. Please, do not start antibiotic therapy uless you were advised so by your vet.
