Dog's anal glands full again in 3 days? Were they not expressed?

I am so sorry Bella is having issues with her anal glands. You can always add some canned pumpkin to Bella's food to see if that helps bulk up her stool a little bit so she can express her anal glands easier. Some dogs do need frequent expressions every 1-2 weeks. I would discuss doing an anal gland infusion with antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory to help with some inflammation in her anal glands. She may or may not need to be sedated for the infusion. Some dogs can tolerate it very well while others (typically when there is an infection) cannot tolerate it well and will need to be sedated. Hello. I think if his anal glands were indeed very full then I decompressing them could make his anus wider in diameter. However, if you have been lifting his tail more often to check his anus, this can also stimulate his anus to become dilated. Other causes for a dilated anus could include him being sore from the expression of his anal glands or having to defecate. Walk him, and if he seems to be going to the bathroom normally, is not licking or scooting then he should be ok. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The anal glands are always present, even after they have been expressed/ emptied. Depending on the size of the dog they are usually about small grape sized and can be felt around 4-5 o'clock and 7-8 o'clock. I hope this helps answer your question!

If Zoey's anal sacs were really impacted, it may have been uncomfortable to have them expressed and he is still feeling uncomfortable. In addition, going to the vet is stressful for some dogs. I would keep an eye on her, and hopefully she's back to normal tomorrow. If not, I'd consider taking her back into the vet. I hope this helps!

Poor smith. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian to have the glands examined. A warm compress is a great idea but if they are infected smith will need antibiotics to help the swelling resolve. If infected anal glands are not addressed they can ruptured. Also sometimes based on the age of smith. Inflamed gland could be secondary to a mass, recital or prostate issue hope that helps

Hi and thanks for your question. The scabs you mention may be due to chronic licking around his anal area before his anal sacs were expressed. Full anal sacs can cause discomfort and dogs may lick their rear end excessively because of this. You may wipe the area with a mild cleansing cloth a few times a day and see if it improves.
