My dog has bloody mucus from anal glands after pooping. What's wrong?

If the blood and mucous is coming from his anal gland, he may have an infected anal gland. If that is the case, he may need an infusion or oral antibiotics to resolve it. It is a little difficult to say exactly what is going on with Daisy - she may have a recital prolapse (a condition where some of the tissue in the rectum actually comes out) or chronic irritation if she is scooting on carpeted areas. Scooting may be related to anal gland impactions, infections, or intestinal parasites. I recommend having Daisy seen by a vet as soon as possible because she is likely uncomfortable and the conditions above require treatment. I hope all is well!

Some specks of blood would not be uncommon after having severely impacted glands emptied but you should have them rechecked if it persistts longer than 3-5days or the pain returns. A fiber supplement such as glandex can help prevent recurrent issues

I hate to hear that Precious have you a scare! Blood in the stool can be due to many things including worms, giardia, eating something she shouldn’t have and bacterial over growth. It can also be due to more serious conditions like organ dysfunction, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. The mucus can signify irritation as well and it has the same causes as the blood. That was smart to take her in yesterday. Make sure to give her all the medications and monitor her stool closely. If you continue to see blood or soft stool, have her re-examined and discuss next steps diagnostic wise. Make sure that she eats and drinks well and has a good energy level. Hello, I am sorry but on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach we are not able to prescribe medications. Legally, your dog needs to be physically seen by a vet to get antibiotic treatment. If Daisy has indeed a ruptured anal gland abscess, she will need a course antibiotics to get better. Maybe you can talk to your local vets about a payment plan or try and find a low-cost clinic for Daisy ?

Both of these conditions need a vet attention and most likely a course of antibiotics. Please, take Simba to your regular vets to confirm the diagnosis and to get treatment for him. With current Covid-19 regulations, if required your vet may be able to offer a video-consult or prescribe a course of antibiotic over the phone.

He should be checked by a vet. This may be a sign of an anal gland infection or cancer if they are all tumors. It may also indidcate an auto immune disease that is causing fistulas.
