Is dog amoxicillin safe for my sick rat if given proper dosage?

Amoxicillin can be used, however you should have Roscoe examined by your veterinarian first. An appropriate dose or a more effective antibiotic can be recommended or dispensed. Inappropriate antibiotic use can lead to resistant bacteria and may complicate any underlying condition, possibly delaying diagnosis. Never medicate your pet without the advice of your veterinarian.

Ear infections are usually treated with an antibiotic ointment that is placed directly in the ear and left in the ear to work in between cleanings. A typical schedule of cleanings include cleaning out the affected ear every twelve hours, placing the ointment in the ear, massaging and letting it set. This continues for a period of 7-10 days to completely clear the infection. There are some OTC ear infection ointments available but it is likely you will need to visit your vet for a prescription version. Amoxicillin is a general antibiotic and is more common in other infections such as skin or minor internal infections. It is best to check with your vet to see if it is appropriate for your dog's type of ear infection rather than just giving it. Giving the wrong medication or wrong dosage for the problem can actually make it worse, or even make your dog very ill.

Most likely this amount of amoxicillin is not going to cause Theodore any harm. However any medication can cause GI irritation like vomiting and diarrhea. IF you notice any diarrhea I would recommend trying a bland diet for 12-24 hours of boiled chicken and white rice. Hi, amoxicillin can be used in kittens but how do you give it ? I have witnessed some owners doing more harm then good by administering oral medications to kittens. I would recommend to see your vet so they can be started with a more effective, safe and fast acting injection and then you can continue at home with some oral drops for example. The dosage in kittens would be 10 mg per pound for 5-7 days. Hope this helps,
