Ths is very concerning and I recommend you contact a behaviorist for a house visit to fully assess all the triggers and issues in this case. Boundaries are very important and I recommend you restrict his access in the house in order to provide some social structure to his routine - allowing a dog to sleep on the beds and couches can result in mixed messages as to his place in the pack and lead him to think he actually controls the house and access to all things important. It is important he gets sufficient exercise for both mental and physical stimulation every day and should be outdoors at least 1.5-2hours a day as a largem active dog. Do not allow him to be undupervised with your chilrdren at any time until you can have him fully assessed

Moving to a new area, new home, and the addition of changing to being an only dog is a lot of new changes all at once. Sometimes it just takes time for dogs to acclimate to their new life and new home. She is likely feeling a little insecure in her new place, but that is not unusual. Keep her busy with exercise. Lots of walks, lots of play time with you and gradually introduce her to new people making the experience positive with rewarding her for good behavior with a treat she really really loves. Lavander oil with an essential oil diffuser in your home can aide in calming the mood. Calming chews with L-Theanine in them can also help as well as a number of Rx medications that can help smooth the transition if you are finding yourself and Luna in a road block with progress. Also, working with a trainer around your area can be a very helpful to keep Luna on track and moving in the right direction. Fear and aggression are both often due to underlying fear and/or anxiety. Working with a trainer will help you learn how to correct behaviors in a way that doesn't exacerbate anxiety or fear. It may be helpful to discuss anti-anxiety medication with your veterinarian as well. Spartacus is an adorable dog, but your situation concerns me on many levels. I'm very concerned that you live in an abusive environment and that your father has beaten your dog. Dogs will react to stress and abuse in the home, and that can come out as aggression to other animals as well as people, and a refusal to eat. In all honesty, this is not a safe environment for you or him, and it sounds like you need some outside help besides veterinary advice. I'm not sure if you have outside resources such as a social worker or therapist, and I urge you strongly to find one to help you if you do not. I would even consider reaching out to the police, as they can help protect you and Spartacus from the abuse, and get you the resources you need to be in a safe environment. I'm worried about both you and him, and you definitely need help so you aren't secluded or in a dangerous situation. In my previous experience as a mental health therapist, abuse in the home gets worse not better, and I certainly wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you or Spartacus. Please reach out to someone like a social worker or therapist in your area, or if you cannot find one, please reach out to the police for help. Poor Onyx! I recommend you have him seen by a veterinarian to help rule out medical cause for his behaviour. If he is otherwise healthy, his behaviour may be caused by stress at the new family member in the house. Try to stick to a daily routine with him, and maybe save a little of his food for your brother in law to give him daily so Onyx can have positive associations with him. The sudden temperament change can be due to stress from a new baby or maybe an indication of pain or a neurological problem such as tumor or dementia. You can talk with your vet about medicine for pain but with a new baby it is probably safest to not chance it and always keep them separate. If the medicines do not help and her behavior continues then I am afraid your only other option is considering euthanasia for everyone’s safety. I am so sorry you are faced with this!

I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with him! Some rescue dogs can be challenging and a certified behaviorist may be able to provide some options but with behavior this extreme I would be concerned about a possible brain lesion which would require CT/MRI to diagnose. You must at all times keep you and your families safety your priority and if such investigations are not feasible, euthanasia would not be a wrong decision either given the risk to others and the poor quality of life he is experiencing given he is so reactive and unpredictable
