Why is my dog acting strange, peeing inside after new housemate?

Behavioral stressors, such as a change in her normal routine, can trigger inappropriate urination in some pets. As a first step, Riley should be seen by her vet and have a urinalysis performed to check for the presence of infection and crystals. A urinary tract infection requires antibiotics and crystals may require a diet change. If medical issues are ruled out, consider using a calming pheromone diffuser or collar (Adaptil is one example).

I would start by tackling the medical issues first. This would require a visit to your family vet within the next few days. They will recommend checking a urine sample for evidence of bacteria or crystals. If the urine comes back clear, then we can focus on behaviour and changes we can make in the house to reduce stress. Adaptil, for example, is a dog pheromone that can be used with good success in cases of mild anxiety or adjustments to new environments. I would also use an enzymatic cleaner to neutralize the odour from the previous urine accidents, as he is more likely to pee there again if he can still smell it. Make sure he has comfort items in his new home, such as his favourite toys and bed to cuddle up in. Placing his bed in a quiet area of the house where he can still interact with you would be ideal. I would recommend taking Comet to a veterinarian and have them get a urine to rule out any type of infection. There are also systemic diseases (kidney disease and diabetes) that can cause an increase in urination which can present as inappropriate urination. It may also be something called Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease which can be brought on by stress. This can create inflammation in the bladder and the urethra, it can cause bladder stones and even UTI. Depending on what the veterinarian finds would depend on treatment. They may do a trial of antibiotics, they may change Comet's food or they may even prescribe medication to help with Comet's stresses from having a new housemate. However, there are other medical conditions that could be causing him to pee inside the cause. This could be associated with a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or even a mass in his bladder. In a male dog, you may see inflammation or infection of the prostate which may also increase urgency to urinate. Finally, other metabolic diseases such as Cushings or Diabetes may cause increase drinking and urinations. Poor guy. There are two most likely possibilities. One is that something scary happened to him during the party (kids being too rough or even just the noise being scary for him) or he has been ill for the past 7 months and is feeling poorly because of that. I would recommend starting with a vet visit to make sure he seems medically healthy, and talking them through the behavioral changes you've noticed to decide if he needs treatment.

Inappropriate urination occurs when a dog regresses to urinating inside the house. This behavior is more common in male dogs that have not been neutered, although it can occur in non-neutered dogs and cats. The first thing to rule out is inappropriate urination that occurs when there is an underlying health problem which is causing a dog to urinate inside the house. It may have lost control of the muscles in its bladder or sphincter, or there may be an infection (UTI) or other condition as drinking too much (seen in many medical conditions) that is making it difficult for the dog to hold it in long enough to get outside. When a medical caused has been ruled out we can think about the second type of inappropriate urination which is behavioral (such as marking).
