Why is my 6-month-old Pitbull aggressive and lethargic? Is she in heat?

It can take up to 12 months or longer for a large breed dog to go into heat for the first time, so Eos may not be mature enough yet. I am concerned that she bled all over your bed two weeks ago and I am curious as to what could cause it, but if it hasn't happened since, maybe she injured herself causing the bleeding. I would wait a bit longer to see if she goes into heat.

Most dogs will have their first heat around 6 months of age. Smaller breeds may go into heat sooner than large breeds. Aries may have a UTI (urinary tract infection). Symptoms include frequent urination, straining to urinate, foul smelling or bloody urine and a change in thirst or urination. You would need to have her physically examined by your veterinarian and submit a urine sample, for urinalysis and culture, to definitively diagnose a UTI.

Bitches do not normally become quiet and depressed, or aggressive to family, because they are in season. I would have Fey checked by a vet to rule out any physical causes for this behavior first. It is the skin around the vulva that is irritated and swollen, not the vulva itself. The vulva will swell when they are going into heat. This is a skin infection. I suggest you have her to your vet for an exam.

Pit Bull Terriers are notorious for having skin issues/allergies. That is my best guess as to what is going on. She is probably agitated and that is why she is getting snippy with the other dog. Dogs also lick their feet incessantly when they are stressed out and this may be the case with her if you have brought another dog in the house. Dogs that are not spayed will also have hormonal issues that can cause this behavior. If you are not planning on breeding her it would be best to get her spayed. In the meantime you can try treating her for allergy like symptoms and see if it helps: 1. You need to get an E-collar (cone) to stop her from licking. If she doesn't stop licking the feet will never get better no matter what you do. Dogs metabolize this drug very quickly which is why they take such a high dose. 3. Bathe her with medicated shampoo. I would do her whole body the first time and then every 3 days I would do just the feet. This is definitely possible that she is already back in heat. She could also have an infection so be sure to keep an eye out for any abnormal behavior like not eating, lethargy, or vomiting. If you see any abnormal behavior or just want to be sure, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she is healthy. I would not breed her during this heat cycle since she just had a litter. I would try to collect a urine sample and bring it with you for an appointment with your Vet. If she has an infection they can provide her with antibiotics. When dogs are in heat they sometimes act lethargic. She is a bit young to have an infected uterus as they do drink and urinate more. It is best to have her examined. I wish you the best!
