My aggressive dog has a hole and lump near groin. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 11 years and 8 months old | 55 lbs

A hole in the skin popped out of my dog near the groin area. This wasn't seen till the last time he had a bath and that was on 26th. I'm worried and need good guidance as to how the wound can be healed. As a quick case I applied some Betadine to the wound, I used this before on other wound on his leg a few years back. Could you guys please help? There's also a lump on the skin nearby. He's a very aggressive dog and won't go to the vet. That's the reason I'm trying to get remote help.

Poor guy. Unfortunately the lump there is likely a skin mass. The hole is also present likely because this mass is causing changes in the skin nearby, which has ulcerated and may also be infected. The Betadine will help keep the infection down, but the hole likely won't close without further care from your vet, which includes oral antibiotics and possible removal of this mass.
Your vet can prescribe a medication to help calm Spike for his visit, so its best to get into contact with them so that Spike can be seen hopefully without too much trouble.
I do hope that your pet Spike is able to get this resolved soon. Best of luck and take care.
