Dog aggressive when cleaning rear? Is it pain or anal gland issues?

Hello. She may be having some irritation from her anal sacs/glands. These can become impacted or infected and are itchy or painful. A veterinarian or even some groomers can express these for you. Try calling a grooming center to see if they offer just that service alone to keep your costs low. There may even be instructional videos online to teach you how to do it yourself, but it can be unpleasant and most dogs do not like it. Hello, sorry to hear about Daisy. One thing is that she could have impacted anal glands that could be leading to an abscess. Second is that she could have perineal fistulas, an autoimmune disease that could cause the foul smell. I would recommend having her evaluated so that she can have her anal glands and perineum evaluated to treat any underlying infection. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Ellie is adorable! This is an unusual problem. I recommend discussing this with your veterinarian and have them look into the mouth if they can to look at her teeth. I would give her anti inflammatory medication, sedate her and gently stretch the mouth to get it to open more. Then they can examine the mouth and clean the teeth if needed. She has scar tissue keeping the mouth from opening but with heat, pain medication and steady pressure for 10-20 minutes while under anesthesia this should be able to be stretched open more. My dog had a similar scar problem and that what I did to improve the range of motion. She may not get to normal but it should improve the jaw mobility. There can be several possible causes of Riley's abnormal behaviors, including irritation from full anal glands, parasites or seizure activity. That said, if Riley is aware and responsive to you at all times, seizures seem less likely. Anal glands are scent glands that typically empty with a bowel movement, but sometimes they need to be manually emptied. If this continues, Riley should be seen by her vet to express/empty her anal glands and check a stool sample for the presence of parasites.

Your dog could have hip or back problems that make it painful to posture to defecate and would also make it hurt when her tail is manipulated. It could also be infected or inflamed anal glands. This condition is very painful and makes it difficult to defecate or even move. Without treatment, the gland may rupture, causing a open wound on your pet's rear that will require wound care and antibiotics as well as some pain relief. I recommend getting your pet seen by your vet. They will examine your pet, possibly do some x-rays and labwork and be able to give you a better idea of what is going on and how best to treat it.

Sugar is probably suffering from an anal gland infection/blockage, Peroxide or any other ointment will not help, she needs a course of antibiotics and if the anal gland is blocked it requires a procedure to have it deblocked, you need to take her to your vet ASAP in order to get it treated.
