My 9-month dog was mounted at the park. Is she too young for pups?

Generally, I recommend waiting until a dog is close to two years old for intentional breeding since both the dog's body and behavior are more mature at that point. That said, many dogs can become pregnant and deliver healthy pups during their first heat cycle. The potential risks involve more difficulty during delivery (possibly requiring a c-section) and more difficulty caring for the pups once born. Options for Nancy at this point include having her spayed now to terminate a possible pregnancy and prevent future pregnancies, waiting until about 42-45 days after the dogs tied to take her to the vet for x-rays (the pups' skeletons would be visible on x-ray at this point), or simply taking a "wait and see" approach. Dogs are typically pregnant for 62-63 days, so you would be able to check the calendar to have a sense for if/when pups may be born. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

It all depends on whether the male dog ejaculated or not. You can run a pregnancy test and/or an ultrasound at 28 days or have an X-ray done at day 50. Write down the date when they mated. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Coco. A puppy her size will experience her first heat cycle between 7-9 months of age. So it should be anytime for her. The easiest solution is to have her spayed if you want her to be able to go to dog parks. If not, you will need to monitor her extremely carefully. A female in heat, but not yet ready to mate, will be very aggressive to approaching male dogs. She will only be receptive to males for a brief period during her cycle. During the mating process, the dogs will become physically tied together and you will not be able to separate them. I hope this information helps!

I recommend you have Molly seen by your vet to make sure she is okay. Dogs usually go into heat around 6 months of age, but can also go into heat earlier, and often the first heat is not noticeable, as there is not always a lot of visible discharge. She may be pregnant, so speak to your vet about what your options are regarding that as well, and if you want to keep the puppies to term.
