Is my 7-month Doberman puppy's weight and height healthy for his age?

He looks like a great weight actually. The shape of the bones in the spine in that area is what makes those bones extra prominent. There are very tall dorsal processes. Hello! In an ideal situation, you can feel the ribs, but not see them, so that sounds pretty good! When you look at him from above, there should be an "hourglass" shape, just behind his ribs, in an ideal body condition.

Congrats on the new puppy! It is ok that he is only 11 pounds as long as when you look at him he is an ideal weight. He may end up being more petite than other dobermans which is okay! For an ideal weight, he should have waist and you should be able to easily feel his ribs but you should not be able to see his ribs, top of spine or top of hip bones by just looking at him. For his size and energy he should be eating a total of 1.5-2 cups of food a day split into two to three meals per day. Also make sure he is on a puppy food to ensure he is getting the proper about of nutrients. I would definitely discuss his weight In more detail with your vet at his next appointment. Your vet will be able to tell you whether he is underweight of you are unsure. I hope this helps!

I am not really sure what you are worried about. I would not be overly concerned about anything related to his looks until he is full grown (about 18 months of age). You absolutely don't want a large breed puppy to grow too fast as that can cause joint abnormalities so be careful of this. He should be eating a large breed puppy food so I hope the Royal Canin you are feeding is this type of diet and not just a general puppy food. If you have specific concerns I suggest you take him to your vet for an exam. Again, I think he looks just fine from the photos. Best wishes.

Hello. Your picture seems to show a very healthy young dog, but without being able to feel how prominent the ribs & backbone can be palpated, it is impossible to ascertain his condition. A dog, under a year of age, should have some muscle & fat protecting the underlying skeletal structure. With just a little pressure, you should be able to feel ribs & backbone, not sharp points. That is a better way to tell than just by weight because size & bone structure can affect things. If there is a fairly good layer of flesh on your dog, he should be just fine. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! Fierce is beautiful! based on your pictures she looks like a healthy puppy! The weight of dog is based on it's bone structure. Not all dogs within the same breed will weigh exactly the same. Just like people. Fierce has a lot of growing still to do. She may be a more petite Rotweiller, which is perfectly fine. We want her to be a good body condition, over feeding her could lead to obesity which is a health issue. You want her to just be healthy!
