My Doberman Pinscher female isn't eating. What could be wrong?

I wouldn't cut back Shelby's food just yet. A sudden change in appetite can be a sign of a medical issue, so I would schedule her a health check with the vet first to make sure everything is ok. She is beautiful, by the way!

With a Doberman, I would first want to rule-out heart disease. Dobermans are predisposed to having a heart condition that can cause heart failure, which would present like this. However, the fact that she is a cross makes hereditary heart disease less likely. There are many other conditions that can cause these exact same problems such as intracellular parasites/bacteria, intestinal parasites and blood clotting disorders leading to anemia. Either way, the fact that she is pale and lethargic warrants an urgent visit to the veterinarian. The vet will be able to help narrow-down the cause of this and advise the best treatment. Not eating or more than just a day is definitely concerning, particularly if this is highly unusual and she's turning away things like chicken. I would be concerned about some sort of infectious or inflammatory process going on, a primary or secondary gastrointestinal issue, or one of her organ systems (liver or kidney) acting up in some fashion. If she also isn't taking anything to drink, I would definitely be worrying about dehydration setting in. If she hasn't taken anything for you by the morning, get her into the veterinarian for a check up. Unless they are able to make a determination which is obvious based on physical exam, they will want to likely run some diagnostic blood work and perhaps imaging. Hope this makes sense.

I would be concerned that Queen isn't eating because she has a medical illness. Anorexia is a very general sign of illness in dogs, and can be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. I would have her seen by a vet as soon as possible for a health check. It could be something like gastroenteritis (tummy upset), pancreatitis, infection, or pain, among many other things. I would take her to a vet in the morning, where they will perform a full physical exam to check for any sources of pain or discomfort. They may also recommend blood tests or x-rays depending on what is found and what her other symptoms are. Hopefully with these, they will be able to find out the cause of her anorexia. In the meantime, I would try offering her a small homemade meal of plain boiled chicken and rice. Hi there! I'm so sorry poppy isn't feeling well. Given her signs, and that she isn't spayed, she does run the risk of having a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus. This can become very, very serious if left untreated, so I would have her examined by your veterinarian right away. Aside from the above, which would be at the top of my list until proven otherwise, Poppy is 7 years old. This makes her a senior dog. She should have blood tests to check not only for a pyometra, but for other illnesses such as diabetes, or kidney disease, for example, that may cause her decreased appetite. Good luck!

It sounds like something is effecting her stomach if she refuses to eat then vomit when she does. I would suspect bad inflammation in the orsophagus or stomach, or some sort of mass or ulcer causing irritation in the stomach. The best way to find out is to take her to the vet as she will need an ultrasound or xray to see the stomach.
