Will my disobedient puppy learn from socializing with a calm dog?

I believe it depends on the types of interactions. If they are normal, friendly interactions between the two it will help socialize your dog and help them recognize what behaviors are acceptable or not within a pack of dogs. Although at the same time, if the interactions are violent or stressful then it could exacerbate the problem. Also, interactions with just one other dog may help it become sociable with that one particular dog and not neccessarily other dogs. But overall, I think it's worth trying to socialize and expose your dog slowly to others to help with any aggression issues. Hope this helps! -Dr. Gordon

Some of this may be curiosity and not knowing manners on how to act around new dogs. Some dogs have a different personality and manners on a leash vs. off a leash. She is young enough that seeking a trainer to help socialize her both on and off leash, in new settings, and around new and familiar animals will help her behavior. The more interactions at a young age, the better as long as they are controlled and the proper behavior rewarded

This is one of those situations where it could go either way. Some dogs desperately need a playmate and will do infinitely better with one. Others will just end up feeding off the energy of their mate and you'll have two troublemakers on your hands. My opinion is that if you plan to get a second dog, you would be better off obtaining a young adult dog that is already house / obedience trained so that Lirril might imitate some of the behaviors you'd like to see. The behaviors you are describing are overall extremely normal for a 10 month old puppy, and you likely are just going to have to double down on your efforts with training. You also need to make sure that all other members of the household are on board with any training methods you are using. The weakest chain in the link is the only one that matters unfortunately, since repetition and consistency is going to be the key to having a well-trained and obedient dog.

It would be a good idea to enroll her in an obedience class (even if she is older). There she can learn to interact with people and other dogs in a controlled environment, and there will be an instructor there to help you with any particular issues you're having.

AS long as she is generally easy going and has no negative experiences with people she should develop fine with only rare meetings with new people. It can help to take pups to schools and playgrounds to expose them to the noise of busy children playing and also to find a buddy dog (preferably young adult) for her to play with off lead in a secure area also

You are doing a good job so far. I would go to puppy classes and then a group obedience class or two when he’s six month old or so. The more training you do the better behaved dog you will have. This is a large and head strong breed so I’m glad you are taking the socialization and training seriously. In addition I would have it neutered by eight months to prevent any change of behavior due to adult hormones. the best way is the keep exposing him to other dogs. If you have a friend that has a well adjusted dog he could meet first would be best. Let them sniff each other on the leash before letting them play. some dogs act completely friendly and normal off the leash around other dogs than they do on the leash. Once he gets comfortable with this interaction you can progress to other dogs. You can try to find a group puppy class that can teach basic obedience and gets them used to other dogs at the same time.
