Diabetic dog still peeing at night. Is his diabetes getting worse?

Incontinence is not expected to be a part of Diabetes but it is something dogs can develop. Diabetes does make them more prone to urinary tract infections and this can cause this issue. I recommend to have Hanz checked for a an infection and bladder stones. Additionally, some males will respond to medications to tighten the bladder sphincter. It could be that her insulin needs adjusting, and the diabetes is causing her to drink more and then pee in her bed. It could also be she has another medical issue, such as kidney disease, causing her to drink more and urinated in her bed. I would recommend taking her into the vet first thing in the morning for a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis to see what is causing her to drink, eat, and pee more.

Hello. If she is still drinking and peeing and having glucose in her pee then the diabetes isn't under control. Chat with your vet about checking for infections (urinalysis is recommended) as well as Cushing's disease. If these are present the diabetes won't become controlled. Hair loss is associated woth Cushings as well. Good luck with her!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ronan. I do recommend that sees his veterinarian. Needing to go out at night indicates urgency. So even though he has not had diarrhea, he is experiencing gastrointestinal distress. He could have pancreatitis, stress induced colitis, an intestinal infection or primary GI disease. His veterinarian will gather information based on physical exam and then may recommend diagnostic testing. I hope this information helps!

I am very sorry to hear about Jackson. You mention his diet was changed but don't mention if he is getting insulin injections. Most dogs do require insulin to treat and control diabetes. If his diabetes is not well regulated this could be the reason for his urinary issues. I would find out if Jackson is getting insulin and if the vet has been checking his blood sugar levels with a glucose curve and also checking urinalysis to be sure he isn't getting urinary tract infections which are common with diabetes. Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Abel has diabetes! Abel will need to be started on insulin, which will need to come from your vet. If Abel has been lethargic and not eating much, my recommendation would be to have him hospitalized at the vet as soon as possible to get his blood sugar under control, so I'd call them right away and see how quickly he can be seen again - even if the vet isn't free to talk to you when you call, I'd recommend you ask the front desk how quickly Abel can be seen. Untreated diabetes can definitely make a pet become much more sick very quickly, so now that you know it's diabetes I would get Abel rechecked. That way when you bring Abel in, you can talk further about the diabetes diagnosis, and your vet can help you become comfortable with measuring and giving the insulin. When I diagnose new diabetic animals, I usually have the owner practice giving injections of saline to their pet in the hospital so we know they will be comfortable with drawing up the correct dose of insulin and giving injections at home. Your vet will also likely want you to start Abel on a prescription diet formulated to help maintain a more steady blood sugar. I hope this helps and he feels better soon!

Even though it’s only happening at night, Fiddle still might have a urinary tract infection or a problem causing increased thirst that leads to increased urination (infections, kidney disease and diabetes would be a few of these diseases). I would recommend seeing your vet - they would probably recommend checking a urine sample to start.
