My diabetic dog ate chocolate cake and is now trembling. What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 22 lbs

My diabetic pet consumed a big portion of chocolate cake. He threw it up within an hour. It was five different puddles of thrown up cake. It’s been 12 hours since and he has slight trembles and pacing back and forth. He seems thirsty but won’t drink. What should I do next ?

You should have your dog seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. This amount of chocolate could be toxic to him and now he may also be at risk of developing pancreatitis. It is important that he is assessed ASAP.
