Does Dawn dish soap or flea collars work for dog fleas and ticks?

The Seresto flea/tick collar is the only one on the market that is safe and effective - the others, including Adams, are often dangerously toxic for the dog and not effective at all for fleas in my experience. Advantix is definitely a better choice than PetArmor, but the most effective option available for fleas and ticks currently would be an oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto. I would recommend getting a prescription from your veterinarian for one of these medications, if possible - this will eliminate the need for any topical medication or flea collars, and will also work much better.

The flea and tick shampoo is better than fish soap. BUT there are much better ways to treat fleas. So when you give Lunar Moon a bath, you are only killing the fleas that are currently on her and the ones that will jump on her within the next 24 hours, then it wears off. Female fleas lay 50 eggs every single day and these eggs will hatch in 3 to 6 months. So every day you have new fleas hatching out in the environment. A better method to get rid of the fleas are to treat every single pet in the house with a reputable flea product. I recommend Simparica or Nexgard for most dogs. If you want to stick with an over-the-counter product, stick with frontline. Keep in mind though that frontline is now an older product and fleas are developing an immunity to it which means it may not work as well. Environmental cleanup will help with the problem, but it will not illuminate every single flea egg. You must treat for a solid six months in order to get through the whole flea lifecycle. I think that certain flea collars can provide good protection against fleas and ticks for the right dog in the right area. Seresto is the product that I most often recommend. The collar has to stay on all the time, and bathing or swimming can alter the effectiveness of the collar, so if Mia is frequently in water or you don't want her to wear a collar all the time it might not be a good choice. Preventic is another collar, but there is concern for toxicity if the collar is ingested and there may be some concern if there are children or pets in the house that will be chronically exposed. I have also seen over the counter collars that have essential oils or pyrethrins as the active ingredient - in my opinion these don't work well. Your best bet is to ask your vet which collar they think would work best in your area.

The only flea collar that appears to work well is the Seresto collar. And even then, I can have a slower rate of kill for the fleas. The top products on the market our oral products such as some Perica and next guard. For most pets, these are good options that I recommend to call your veterinarian first and doublecheck. Also, you will need to treat all the pets in the household for six months to make sure you get through the entire fleet lifecycle. Best of luck.

I prefer spot-ons and chews over collars. The only collar I would recommend is Seresto. This, in my opinion would be superior to Frontline, as in many areas there are resistances to Frontline already.

I recommend oral flea & tick preventatives. There are several brands, and all are effective: Nexgard, Simparica, and Credelio are monthly, or Bravecto which is given every 12 weeks. My top two are Nexgard and Bravecto. These are prescription products available from your veterinarian. Hope this helps!

The only decent flea collar is seresto. It is labeled for 8 months but the more you bathe them the shorter that period seems to be. So realistically you can get 5-6 months out of it. Bravecto tablets work well as it can last 3 months
