Best comfortable recovery cone for a large dog after spaying?

As long as there is no heat, swelling or discharge it should be ok. There is a doughnut collar that may work- it blows up around the neck. A shirt would work too. One of those should help you out. Hi, you could make a cone, but to be honest one bought from the store or vet is going to fit Luke much more comfortably. The best alternative to a cone I have seen was a very plush travel neck pillow that attached at the edges so it went all around the neck. This stopped the dog licking a spot on her mid back. Also as a temporary fix you could dress a small t shirt or even boxers over him to cover the lesion.

Hello. Poor baby. You can use an Elizabethan cone to keep her from reaching the area. There are the rigid plastic ones which might stress her out, so I would find one of the soft, flexible ones, or one that blows up like a soft neck collar. They also make body suits for dogs that can be used after surgeries & to protect wounds. Without seeing how deep the cu is or whether it is located on her neck, I have some difficulty in advising you about the cone. I would recommend reaching out to your regular veterinarian for further advice or taking a peek at her cut to see if it is a concern. In order to protect her spay site, you can also buy post-surgical dog "onesies" that would mean she wouldn't need a cone collar but she wouldn't be able to get at her stitches as well. Good luck!

Petco should have an inflatable collar that works like an e-collar. It looks a lot like an inflated inner tube and it helps keep her from being able to turn her head far enough to reach her incision site.

The problem with the surgical suit is that it may not let the incision breathe as well as it should in order to quickly heal. You could try an inflatable collar - it looks like an airplane pillow and sold at the pet stores. Make sure you get a big enough size - if it is too small it won't work. This works well with most incisions on the body but doesn't work for anything on a leg/foot. I hope this helps!

Her incision should be healed by now so you should not need another cone. I would take that one off while you are home and make sure she's not licking the area. Distract her if she does, and if there are stitches and she's still going after them then you may need to get another cone and leave it on longer.
